Best Days

We had the 3 Maine Grands overnight last week, the joy of being Mummi. They have their favorite things to play and do while they are here and part of my time is spent transitioning from one thing to the next.
Phoebe was talking with Molly as they played. "You can do this when you get bigger. You will grow up and up and up and then you can "...whatever it was that Phoebe didn't want Molly to do. Molly said, "No, I don't want to grow up and up and up. I want to be 2. I want to be 2. I not grow up." I asked her why she didn't want to grow up and she replied, ""cause I 2". Simple as that. She is.
It reminded me of our two boys who both had times they didn't want to get older. Luke wanted to stay 5. Didn't want a party, didn't want presents, just to stay 5. When asked why he said, "Because at 5 you can do things for yourself but no one expects too much of you." Right!
John, a few years later, decided he didn't want to turn 5 at all. When we asked him why he didn't want a birthday with presents and cake and all, he said...."Because I don't want you to get old". Gotta love it.
So it seems that maybe, at each age, we think it's the best and want to stay there. My Dad at 79 tells me these are the best days of his life. He says he and Mom have never been happier. I think I'll be happy today and happier tomorrow too.
